8 Indoor Ball Games

Let’s talk about some fun indoor ball games! There’s a game here for most ages.

  1. Grab an empty water bottle and some marbles or small pom pom balls. Have your child work on fine motor skills by placing the items inside the bottle. You can also add in color recognition with this activity and when your child has placed all of the small balls, it’s a fun noise shaker.

  2. Beach ball volleyball is a simple back and forth passing game. However, I like to write small challenges on the ball in dry erase marker and whatever your child’s hand lands on is the next activity to try. You can include exercises like jumping jacks or push-ups, 30 second dance parties, or silly activities like wiggle like a worm. Feel free to get creative with this one.

  3. Indoor bowling is a fun idea to work on coordination. If you don’t have bowling pins, you can use something similar like water bottles or toy figurines. Make the activity more difficult by increasing the distance to the pins or maybe have your child stand on one leg when throwing.

  4. Find some cups and stack them in a pyramid. Next, grab a ping pong ball or ball pit ball and try to knock over the cups. You can make this easier or more challenging by increasing the number of cups or changing the ball weight. Add in a timer and see who can knock them over and restock them the fastest.

  5. Set up different sized boxes, cups, and bowls as the goals. Make sure to change the heights and distances to increase difficulty. Have your child throw a small ball pit ball or tennis ball and try to make it into the goals. Whoever gets 10 balls in the goals first is the winner and gets to pick the next activity.

  6. Don’t let the balloon hit the ground. Pass the balloon back and forth or have them keep the balloon up on their own.To increase the challenge, only use one hand, balance on a single leg, or add a timer.

  7. For this activity, you’ll need pom pom balls and a straw. Set up the pom pom balls at one end of the table and use the straw to blow them across the table into a goal. If that’s too easy, create a small maze on the table to maneuver around.

  8. Hot potato is a ball passing game but let’s make it a bit more challenging. Add in a naming challenge, such as naming a food or animal with a certain letter on each pass. This can be individualized for certain subjects or lessons they are currently working on in school. If that’s too easy, add in a physical challenge like catching with your opposite hand or hopping on one foot.

I hope you get to try some of these with your children at home. We would love to hear how you got creative and made it fun for your house. Feel free to reach out to info@setinmotionphysicaltherapy.com for any questions.
